Leggett and Platt’s S-cape and Classic Brands’ Adjustable Bed Base are two of the leading adjustable beds, but how do these beds compare against each other?

The Better Sleep Council states adjustable bed sales are up 24% in the past year, and there’s a reason why: adjustable beds are becoming more affordable. But there is more to it than that. Just take a glance at these two models, and you’ll realize that your standard bed is dated.

We’re going to review each model and compare their features to see which comes out on top.

Leggett & Platt’s S-Cape 2.0 Review

The S-Cape 2.0 is an adjustable bed base featuring a queen size, massage feature, night light, wall hugger design and wireless options. A lift capacity of 850 pounds is provided along with a 25-year warranty, making this a long-lasting adjustable bed.

Before diving deeper into our review, check out this model’s features below:

Features

  • 850 lift capacity
  • Microhook retention system
  • Full-body, dual massage
  • Back-lit wireless remote
  • Zero gravity button
  • 2 Programmable positions
  • Under bed lighting
  • Adjustable legs

Leggett & Platt makes the entire process of switching to an adjustable bed quick and easy. Setup is simple, but the weight of the frame will require two people to help with assembly. Once everything is setup, it’s time to look deeper at this unit’s design.

First, you’ll notice that there’s a microhook retention system.

Leggett & Platt designed this system to ensure that the mattress stays in place when in use. There is no sliding or movement to worry about. And the bed doesn’t squeak like a lot of adjustable beds, which is, in part, attributed to the retention system.

The wireless remote is backlit, so it’s easy to read even when you have the lights off.

Your remote allows you to move the head or foot section of the bed upward. If you find just the right position, you can program it into your remote. There are two programmable positions available to customize your bed with the click of a button.

If you want to go into zero gravity, you there’s also a button for that.

A dual massage

The massage  feature offers a dual massage, and there’s a wave feature, too. The bed has under bed lights, and the legs are adjustable so that you can adjust the height of the bed to your needs.

Pros

  • Fast setup with installation guide
  • Two programmable positions
  • Retention system keeps the mattress in place

Cons

  • Very heavy

You’ll need help moving and setting this bed up, but that’s expected with most adjustable beds. The S-Cape 2.0 is easy to setup, offers wall hugger capability and can be programmed to allow for two unique positions at a click of a button.

Classic Brands Adjustable Bed Base Review

Classic Brands offers another option for an adjustable bed, and the company has incorporated features that Leggett & Platt have missed. The features that stand out the most as being unique are: USB  ports, head and foot massage, 3 speed massage and TV positioning.

This bed’s full set of features includes:

Features

  • Head and foot massage
  • Wireless remote
  • USB ports
  • Zero-gravity positions
  • TV/PC position
  • Foot retainer bar
  • 3-speed massage
  • Retention system
  • Adjustable legs (3 positions)

You might need an extra hand to help you assemble the Classic Brands model – it’s heavy, too. Assembly is quick, but there are some quality concerns. Customer service is willing to send out replacement parts if parts are missing or broken.

Every manufacturer has random broken parts every once in a while.

Once assembly is complete, you’ll find that adjusting your bed is a breeze. The remote is easy to read, and you can adjust the head and foot independently. There are programmable settings for TV/PC, lounge and zero-gravity.

You’ll even be able to adjust the speed of your massage to enjoy a head or foot massage while you relax to watch your favorite television show.

When it comes time to plug in one of your devices, there’s a built-in USB port that allows you to charge or power your favorite devices. The bed’s feet are adjustable, from 4 inches, 6.5 inches and 10.5 inches in height.

The retention rail keeps the mattress in place during use.

Pros

  • 3 massage speeds
  • USB ports included
  • 3 custom positions

Cons

  • Quality concerns

A lot of customers complain about quality issues with their bed, and this is a concern with most items. The good thing is that customer service is quick to correct the problem, but it’s still a slight hassle.

Aside from this small complaint, the inclusion of a USB port, three programmable positions and three massage speeds makes Classic Brands a great choice.

Leggett & Platt S-Cape vs Classic Brands

Classic Brands offers an adjustable bed that’s close to Leggett & Platt. You’ll notice that the main differences between the two models are:

  • Classic doesn’t have under bed lighting
  • Classic doesn’t have a wave function
  • Classic doesn’t feature a wall hugger design
  • Leggett & Platt doesn’t have a USB port
  • Leggett & Platt doesn’t have 3-speed massage
  • Leggett & Platt doesn’t have TV/PC position

But Leggett & Platt does have a high lift capacity, which is equally as nice.

The weight of each model is very similar, so you’ll need help during the assembly process.

In the adjustable department, Classic Brands allows the legs of their bed to be adjusted as high as 10.5 inches, so it’s easier to stand off of the bed. Elders often have difficulty standing from low surfaces, according to Merck Manual.

Adjustable beds have also been shown to have multiple health benefits, including help with acid reflux, GERD and swelling issues.

If you want to place your bed close to the wall or nightstand, enjoy wave massages or need under bed lighting, Leggett & Platt is the option for you. If massage speeds, USB ports and additional positions are important, Classic Brands is a great option.
