Chiroflow Waterbase Waterpillow - Chiroflow’s waterpillow comes in a standard white color, and the pillow is made with a StaLoft Dacron polyester blend. Heavy, the pillow weighs 1.81 pounds when it’s not filled. The deep cushion of hypoallergenic material sits on top of the water layer to provide sleepers with the utmost comfort. The Jumbo size pillow spans 20” x 28,” and your standard or queen pillowcase will fit the pillow perfectly.
When you fill the pillow, you’ll find an easy-to-fill water base that offers responsive, gentle support all night long. Water pillows are heavy, they won’t move out of place, and the pillows offer three main forms of therapy:
- Neck pain relief
- Improved sleep
- Superior comfort
A strong barrier keeps the water from ever touching the skin, and the water remains cool to keep the user comfortable at night. The pillow height is adjustable, depending on how much water you fill the pillow with, and a funnel is provided to allow for an easy fill.
Whether you like to sleep on your back or side, the Chiroflow will be your go-to pillow.
Water pillows have stagnant water inside, and over time, if you don’t drain the pillow and take proper care of it, the interior will start to form mold. The formation of mold means that you have to discard the pillow because you cannot get inside of the lining to clean out the mold.
Mold formation occurs after around two years, but with proper care, you may never have mold formation.
The Chiroflow pillow provides added comfort and support for your neck. If you fill the pillow with the right level of water (it takes time to find the ideal volume), it will keep the neck aligned properly alleviating neck and back pain.
Water never leaks, and it’s easy to fill the pillow thanks to the funnel design.
Pros
Long-lasting pillowPolyester blend material
Easy to fill
Deep cushioning for added comfort
Cons
Two-year lifespanAs you toss and turn, the water base will adjust to provide you with proper spinal alignment.
And proper alignment means:
- Less back pain
- Less neck pain
Clinically proven, the waterbase technology has been studied by Johns Hopkins, which found that water pillows are able to improve sleep quality while also reducing neck pain.
StaLoft Dacron polyester is used in the pillow’s design as a fiber filling that adds resiliency and loft to the pillow. The entire pillow is encased in 100% hypoallergenic cotton to add additional comfort.
The pillow comes with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, and a three-year warranty from any defects.
Sizing is 20” x 28,” so a standard or queen pillow case will fit these pillows well.
The deluxe woven cord edge keeps the water safely inside of the pillow and adds to the durability of the pillow. When part of an independent review, the Mediflow was found to be the best pillow in all five categories included in the test.
Keep in mind that if you don’t fill the pillow enough, you will have water sloshing around when you toss and turn.
Water pillows are not a great option for stomach sleepers, and the Mediflow is no exception. The water in the pillow is designed to adjust to the weight of your head, so when sleeping on your stomach, it will cause more neck pain than relief – you’ll be out of alignment.
Mediflow provides comfort, longevity and a highly adjustable firmness level for true pillow personalization.
Pros
Clinically proven pillowStaLoft Dacron polyester
Soft, medium and firm levels
Protected edges for no water leakage
Cons
Not ideal for stomach sleepersComparing the Chiroflow Pillow Vs the Mediflow Pillow
When you start looking at the Chiroflow and the Mediflow, you’ll start to notice that these pillows are very similar. You don’t have a lot of options in this space, and the companies that do offer waterbase pillows use a lot of the same materials and technologies.
Both pillows claim to provide neck pain relief and proper spine alignment. The Mediflow comes backed by independent data from Johns Hopkins that shows that this pillow can help reduce neck pain and provide a better night of sleep.
The two pillows utilize StaLoft Dacron polyester.
Chiroflow uses this polyester with a special finish. The finish will help the pillow flatten out easier and it will not “lump up” like most polyester when it is washed. Mediflow does not mention this special finish, and that’s the main difference between the pillows.
The Chiroflow will respond well when it’s washed, and the company does recommend emptying the water once per year at the very least.
Standard and Queen pillowcases will fit on both pillows. Both pillows have dimensions of 20” x 28,” so they should both fit perfectly in your pillowcases.
When using either of these pillows, they’re very comfortable unless you plan to lay on your stomach. Stomach sleepers will put more strain on their neck and may even move out of alignment when sleeping on a water pillow.
The pillow should be placed with the cap down on the mattress.
Hypoallergenic properties exist with both models, too. The hypoallergenic properties are ideal for sleepers that suffer from:
- Severe allergic reactions
- Unusual allergic reactions
The term itself “hypoallergenic” means that the material is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. And after reading reviews on both of these products, I found that no one was complaining of an allergic reaction.
It’s possible that the pillow can cause a reaction, but it’s very unlikely that an allergic reaction will occur.
When you look through the product descriptions, one nice bonus of the Mediflow is that there’s a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Purchase the pillow and use it for nearly a month. If you don’t find that the pillow works well for you or that it doesn’t alleviate neck pain, you can request a refund.
I have never gone through the refund process, but I have with other companies, and you’ll want to put in the request before the 30-day mark.
Chiroflow’s official website also mentions a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, but the company does not mention the guarantee on their product page.
Warranties are the next question. Mediflow has a three-year warranty, but this is a warranty against defects. A lot can happen over the course of a year, and by three years, you’ll have difficulty proving that an issue with your pillow wasn’t your fault.
Chiroflow does not mention that the company has a warranty, but digging through the company’s website, it does seem that they have a three-year warranty, too.
As you can see, both of these pillows are almost identical.
The one factor that Mediflow has that Chiroflow does not is that the product has been part of a clinical study, so you know that an independent party was examining the pillow and its claims to be able to alleviate neck pain and provide a better-quality sleep.
Chiroflow does seem to have slightly more consumer support for their pillow.
One issue that seems to pop up with both of these pillows, or really all water pillows, is that people can hear the water moving around when they change positions. A lot of users will try to get the air out of the pillow, but the real reason for the sound of water is that the pillow is underfilled.
You’ll need to fill the chamber up more if you want the sound of water to stop.
Expectations when using either pillow need to be realistic. It’s not uncommon for a consumer to try a pillow for a night or two and discard it. When I used a water pillow, I remember it taking a week or two before I noticed any measurable difference in neck pain.
Water also takes some time to get accustomed to because it’s not the static material that people are used to having for their pillow.
The water will conform to your head and help keep the neck aligned, but there is an adjustment period if you’ve never used a similar pillow in the past. Since you can return both pillows within a 30-day period, you can give the pillow you choose a try and return it if it doesn’t meet your expectations.
