Signature Sleep Vs Zinus Who Makes the Best Mattresses in 2020?

Hi there, hope you're enjoying the site. We just wanted to let you you know that we may collect a share of the profits if you go on to buy a product after clicking one of the links, images or buttons on this page.

Signature Sleep and Zinus are two of the leading mattress brands in 2020. WebMD says that “a mattress can impact a person’s sleep.” The wrong mattress reduces blood flow through your blood vessels, leaving you tossing and turning all night long and waking up not feeling refreshed.

A new mattress can help you overcome your morning tiredness.

Brand Differences: Signature Sleep Vs Zinus

These brands offer top-of-the-line, affordable mattresses. Signature and Zinus have mattresses that are very similar, yet Zinus always finds a way to add in a little extra power to make their mattresses really excel.

When you choose Signature Sleep, you’ll enjoy:

  • High quality products
  • One-year warranty
  • Breathable cover

The cover is often far superior to what Zinus has to offer, but this isn’t a deal-breaker by any means. Zinus has a lot of additional features that often make it surpass Signature Sleep (see our comparisons below).

A few of the real strong points that stick out when choosing Zinus are:

  • Green tea extract is used in the design of the products
  • Castor oil is also used in the design of the product
  • Zinus often offers thicker mattresses

Green tea extract and castor oil make a huge difference in the mattress because they eliminate odors and bacteria. Your mattress will continue to smell fresh for years to come. And I almost forgot to mention a very important thing to consider when choosing Zinus.

The company’s warranty.

Zinus is so confident that their products are high quality, they offer a 10-year warranty on them. The 10-year warranty far surpasses what Signature Sleep has to offer. I personally choose Zinus, most of the time, because they offer such an extensive warranty.

Both companies have their own compression technology, and in most cases, they are virtually the same.

You can expect your compressed bed to fully decompress in 48 hours. The good news is that most models can be slept on the same day.

Signature Sleep and Zinus both offer encased coil mattresses, but as you can see from the title, the height difference of these two is massive. Signature Sleep does offer a 10-inch model, so this is an option if you want something with additional height.

The Signature Sleep model has four size options:

  • Twin
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King

And the Zinus comes in three main sizes:

  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

Signature Sleep’s mattress offers a 1.6-inch layer of high density foam at the top and bottom of the mattress compared to Zinus’ 1-inch high density foam. The mattress also features 7-inch, 15-gauge encased mattress coils.

The coils ensure even weight distribution on the mattress.

When weight is distributed equally across the mattress, this allows the mattress to contour to the curves of your body. If you suffer from pressure point pain when sleeping, the even distribution will alleviate these aches and pains.

Featuring CertiPUR-US certified foam, Signature Sleep’s mattress is free from:

  • Flame retardants
  • Mercury
  • Lead
  • Heavy metals

Plus, the mattress has a breathable cover that keeps you cool at night and protects the mattress. Shipped compressed, this mattress will fully expand in two full days.

Pros

  • Ships compressed and is easy to setup
  • Sturdy and doesn’t sag thanks to the high-density foam
  • Free from harmful retardants and metals

Cons

  • Loses its support after a few months

The biggest issue with this mattress is that it starts to lose its support after a few months. It’s a great option for a guest room or day bed though.

Zinus’ mattress provides 1″ of high-density foam, but this doesn’t paint the entire picture of what this mattress offers. Far thicker than the Signature model, this model boasts 1.25″ comfort foam, 1″ gel memory foam, 1.5″ positive foam and foam-encased coils.

This model is also CertiPUR-US certified.

A major difference is that the company uses their own fiber-quilted adaptive technology to keep sleepers dry and cool at night. This adaptive technology allows for greater comfort while you sleep, leading to a better night of sleep.

Also utilizing compression technology, this mattress is shipped neatly rolled up and will return to its desired shape in 48 hours.

Zinus also incorporates green tea extract into their mattress along with natural castor seed oil. Thrifty Fun notes that green tea extract eliminates odors. Your mattress will remain odor-free thanks to the extract and seed oil.

Pros

  • Offers several layers of foam and gel
  • Odor-eliminating power
  • Spring and memory foam hybrid design

Cons

  • Mattress has a “smell” when unpacking.

The main issue with the Zinus is that it, like many compressed mattresses, has an odd smell to it when unpacking. The odor will dissipate after a few days, so it’s not a major concern. When comparing these two models, Zinus has an almost unfair advantage.

Both models offer a great sleep.

If I had to pick just one mattress out of the two, it would have to be the Zinus. Why? The mattress is thicker with several different layers to provide added durability and support. Zinus’ mattress will provide years of use.

And there is a 10-year warranty, too.

Signature Sleep’s 12″ memory foam mattress comes in four main sizes:  twin, full, queen and king. Sizes include 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch. Signature Sleep incorporates a top layer that has 3.5″ of memory foam.

High-density foam follows the top memory foam layer. The high-density foam layer is 8.5″ thick and molds to your body to provide a pain-free night of sleep.

CertiPUR-US certified, this mattress is free from harmful chemicals and retardants.

Vacuum-sealed, the mattress arrives compressed and is ready to be slept in the same day. You’ll be able to enjoy your mattress in just a short few hours, but if you want to enjoy the mattress’ full comfort, you have to wait 48 hours before it expands fully.

Eco-friendly in design, the mattress distributes the sleeper’s weight evenly and provides support when you toss and turn.

An easy-to-clean cover is provided that allows you to protect your mattress from spills. The cover is designed with a knit fabric and is made to be highly breathable to keep you cool at night.

Pros

  • Includes a knit fabric mattress cover
  • Decompresses faster than normal
  • Relives pressure from the feet, shoulders and hips

Cons

  • Very firm for the first few months

The biggest issue with Signature Sleep’s mattress is that a lot of people feel that it’s too firm. Firmness does provide added support to the user, so this is something to consider, too. The firmness of the mattress does start to diminish after a few months.

Zinus’ memory foam mattress come in an array of sizes: twin, full, queen, king and California king. The mattress is also available in thicknesses of 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch.

And if you like the idea of a green tea mattress that eliminates odor, this model also provides green tea memory foam.

Zinus’ memory foam mattress offers durability and stability. The mattress is shipped in compressed form, and you’ll need to wait 48 – 72 hours for the mattress to decompress fully. In extreme circumstances, it may take as long as a week for the mattress to decompress.

The mattress consists of 3″ of memory foam, 2″ comfort foam, 3.5″ airflow high-density foam and a high-density foam base.

The base of the mattress is thick and made of memory foam. What this layer does is add extra support for your back and joints while you sleep.

A knitted Jacquard cover encompasses the entire mattress, allowing your mattress to remain protected from sweat, spills and leaks.

Comfortable and sturdy, this mattress offers the support needed to keep your back in proper alignment and to reduce aches and pains. The airflow high-density foam allows for maximum airflow through the mattress to keep sleepers cool at night.

Pros

  • Bacteria and odor-fighting infused
  • Thick base allows for long-term durability
  • High-density airflow layer keeps sleepers cool at night

Cons

  • Very firm mattress

The mattress is very firm, but you have to give it a few weeks to break it in properly. When broken in properly, you’ll find that the mattress is supportive and still comfortable.

Again, when comparing both of these models, it’s a very close call. Both of these mattresses offer memory foam designs and comfort. The main difference is that Zinus offers a little more with the addition of green tea extract.

The cover on the Zinus isn’t as well-made as the Signature Sleep, but aside from this, it is a well-built mattress that also boasts Zinus’ 10-year warranty versus a 1-year limited warranty.

Gel memory foam is very popular. The cooling power of gel reduces heat when you sleep, making it a great choice for sleepers that sweat at night. Signature’s 6020459 mattress features independently encased coil memory foam.

Provided in queen and king sizes, this mattress is 14 inches thick, making it 2 inches thicker than the Zinus.

Signature Sleep boasts a 1″ gel memory foam layer that provides additional airflow to the mattress while also providing additional contouring power. Above and below the gel infused layer is a 1″ foam layer that adds to the mattress’s comfort level.

Weight is distributed among the 10,” 15-gauge encased coils.

CertiPUR-US certified, this mattress is also free of harmful chemicals and retardants. The mattress is phthalates-free, too. Phthalates are chemicals that have been shown to cause possible reproductive issues in animals, according to the CDC.

The mattress does feature a one-year warranty, and you will need to allow it to decompress for 48 hours to ensure that it expands fully.

The mattress is not reversible, but the encased coils have a two-sided construction to make them extra durable.

Pros

  • Very comfortable design; not too firm
  • Reduces back pain quickly
  • Offers superb cooling for a good night of sleep

Cons

  • Heavy at 100+ pounds

You’ll need help bringing this mattress into your room, but besides this minor complaint, this is a great Signature Sleep mattress that offers durability, back pain relief and a great night of sleep.

Zinus’ model is also a superb model, and is backed by the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty. The addition of green tea memory foam is a major bonus of the Zinus mattress. The green tea extract and castor oil will reduce smells and bacteria – a nice bonus for any mattress.

Available in twin, full, queen and king, the Zinus is available for almost all bed sizes. There are also additional thicknesses to choose from, including: 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch.

Breaking down the mattress’s layers, you’ll find that there is 2″ of gel-infused memory foam, 3″ of comfort foam, 3.5″ of airflow high-density foam and 3.5″ of high-density support foam at the base.

CertiPUR-certified, the mattress is free from harmful chemicals.

Zinus’ patented compression technology allows the mattress to be highly compressed and decompressed quickly. You’ll only need to wait 48 to 72 hours for the mattress to fully expand. The gel infusion and airflow foam make this a very cooling mattress.

Pros

  • Gel and airflow foam layers make the mattress very cooling
  • Expands to near full capacity in 7 – 8 hours in most cases
  • Very comfortable even after months of use
  • Lightweight at 60 pounds

Cons

  • Extremely firm design

Zinus and Signature Sleep go head-to-head with these models. Signature Sleep may have the slight advantage in this one. While I like the green tea extract, the comfort level on the Zinus doesn’t match the Signature Sleep mattress.

Zinus won 2 out of 3 of our comparisons. The gel mattress was a close call, but we gave the nod to the Signature Sleep model. Zinus is our top choice for the best mattress manufacturer this year.
